PRISONERS OF WAR 1915

Postby hulltrawler » Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:51 pm

EXTRACT HDM Dated Jun 01 1915
HULL FISHERMEN PRISONERS OF WAR IN GERMANY
APPEAL THROUGH THE "MAIL "
We have received the following appeal from members of the crews of the Hull Trawlers Duke of Wellington and Euclid. "just a line from me and our crews asking you if you could oblige us by appealing to the fishermen of Hull for a subscription as we are all destitute. We have neither tobacco , cigarettes nor anything else as we lost everything when we were sunk by torpedo boat. We are the only two crews interned in Germany from Hull, but there are plenty from Grimsby and Aberdeen. We alkl think that there will be plenty of our pals who would like to help us in Hull. And as we have to buy our own soap to wash our clothes, and anything extra we want, being without the means of buying the same, and thinking any small contribution, would help us tide over our difficulty. Reading, clothes and cigarette papers would also be thankfully received, as it cost nothing for postage for a parcel or letter. We would be grateful if through your valuable paper, you would give our best respects to our fellow townsmen and our fishermen friends, wishing every success to the fishing industry. We are all in the best of health, and as far as we are all concerned, we cannot complain of our treatment here. Signed on behalf of ourselves and our shipmates 18 in number, members of the crews of the Duke of Wellington and Euclid.
