After Purchasing the Westella Paul Watson had her bows filled with concrete

1979: Sea Shepherd rams the whaler “Sierra” twice . but is stopped by Portugese Naval Vessel which then escorted Sea Shepherd to Portugal where a judge ordered the vessel to be handed over to the whalers as compensation for the damage to their vessel. Before the vessel can be handed over the crew sneak aboard and scuttle her .

1980: The “Sierra” is sunk in Lisbon harbour with the help of limpet mines. Sea Shepherd claims responsibility.

1980 A replacement vessel is sought and the ex Hull Trawler St Giles H220 is bought and becomes Sea Shepherd II
