11 Oct 1941 Attacked and damaged by aircraft off Sunderland 07 Mar 1944 Vessel stranded off Veidios in Medalland Bugt, Iceland with the trawlers Limeslade and Louis Botha |
|
The Court having carefully inquired into the circumstances attending the above-mentioned shipping casualty, finds that the stranding was caused by the faulty navigation of the trawler "WAR GREY" by her skipper Christian Agerskow in that he (a) failed to acquaint the trawlers which he had been ordered to lead with his intended route, (b) intending to proceed to the Vestmann Islands and to make a landfall off Cape Portland he neither set nor maintained the appropriate course, (c) having had no opportunity of checking his position for about 46 hours before stranding he approached and led his section at full speed towards a notoriously dangerous coast in darkness and impaired visibility without taking soundings until almost the moment of stranding. The Court suspends the certificate of competency as skipper of Christian Agerskow for nine calendar months from this date. |
