08 Nov 1905 - The Hull Trawler Magpie landed at Hull the 7 man crew of the Norwegian Barque Nova Scotia from Leith coal laden, which left Leith on the 26th Sept 1905 to Moss Norway. The Nova Scotia was abandoned by her crew on the 6th  Nov about 100 miles East of Aberdeen. After leaving Leith she began to leak almost immediately and on encountering heavy weather, she beacame waterlogged, the crew were constantly at the pumps untill they abandoned the vessel and were picked up by the Magpie.

04 Nov 1912 The Hull Trawler Magpie whist outward bound for the fishing ground arrived at Stromness and reported the loss of the third hand, when 35 miles from Buckie, at 430pm on Saturday the 02 Nov the weather having been rough but was moderating. When Webb was shipping the port light, the board became unshipped, and swining outwards, carried him overboard with the lamp. The magpie immediately returned to the spot, and every effort was made to rescue William Webb, who was seen on top of the water. He was evidently insensible having been stunned, it is thought by the fall. He was then lost sight of and never seen again. He leaves a wife and family.
