10 Nov 1942 Whilst Steaming from Oran to Algiers alone the Lord Nuffield picked up a Asdic Contact. The submarine surfaced close to Lord Nuffield and then immediately dived again, the Nuffields depth charges raining down as it did so. A search was made and again the submarine surfaced the crew heading for their deck guns, the Nuffield already had all guns trained on the submarine and immediately a salvo of 4 inch shell headed for the submarine the third been a direct hita, the forward gun of the submarine replied to Nuffields shells but to no effect, all guns on the Nuffield were firing and hitting their targets, whereupon the submariners waved their arms in a posture of surrender. As the Nuffield closed on the submarine she could see that it was sinking men were throwing themselves into the water, shortly after the vessel sunk beneath the waves. the 49 survivors of the submarine were picked up by the Nuffield and transported to Algiers Italian Submarine EMO commanded by T.V Giuseppe Franco is scuttled after an attack by armed trawler Lord Nuffield.
