31st Oct 1943 - The Imperialist while escorting a convoy in the straits of Gibralter in company with Loch Oskaig, Imperialist picked up a Asdic sounding, within four minutes the first depth charges left their throwers, not long after the slender shape of the submarine U732 broke the surface showing signs that the depth charges had hit their mark. None of the submarine crew appeared and she stood silent in the water the Imperialist continued to fire her Bofors gun and twin point fives.after a onslaught of fire power the submarine was seen to be sinking and as she slipped beneath the surface another pattern of depth charges followed her, Loch Oskaig remaind over the area monitoring and looking for any sign that the submarine had been destroyed. The submarine was badly damaged but had made it to the sea bed were she stayed untill the air ran out unbeknown the current had carried the submarine 6 miles from the spot of her sinking, U732 with no other option but to surface for air headed towards the surface. After surfacing the submarine headed for the Atlantic but was spotted by the British destroyer Douglas who when receiving no reply to hi challenge for identification opened fire, the men in the tower of the submarine waved their arms in a gesture of surrender, but as they refused to stop the douglass continued to fire and manouvered to ram the submarine. A pattern of depth charges set for shallow were dropped and sent the submarine to the bottom, twenty two survivors were picked up including the Captain Klaus Peter Carlsen.
