JULY 01 1908

The King has been pleased on the recommendation of the President of the Board of Trade, to award silver medals for Gallantry in saving life at sea to Mr. Pall Fridrick. Vidalin Bjarnason, Sheriff of the County of Scagafjord Syssel, Iceland, Mr Krisjan Gislason, trader. Thorvaldur Sveinsson, Solil Jonsson, Benedikt Johannsson, and Bjorn Magnusson seamen of Sandarkrok, and Mr Stefan Bjornsson, farmer, of Vedramot, Iceland, in recognition of their services to the crew of the British Steam Trawler Euripides of Hull, which straned off Sandarkrok, Iceland, On Nov 6th Last.  The Board of Trade have awarded a binocular glass to Mr Bjarnason and the sum of £3.00 each to the other persons named above, and also to Mr Jorgen Michelsen, watchmaker, of Sandarkrok in recognition of their services on the occasion.

Dec 1913

The Hull Trawler IMPERIALIST H250 which was homeward bound from the fishing ground, when she sighted distress rocket signals from the West Hartlepool Steamship OLDFIELD GRANGE about 90 miles from the Faroe Isles. The Olfield Grange was bound for Philadelphia and had broken her rudder shaft and in very heavy seas was disabled. . The CHALCEDONY H341 the EURIPEDES H959 also assisted the IMPERIALIST help save the OLDFIELD GRANGE and her crew of 36 when with the assistance of a gunboat they towed the vessel 95 miles to the Faroe Islands.

Rescue of the Wilson Liner Runo 05 09 1914

The Hull Trawler Cameo H394 under skipper Frederick William Wollaston rescued many lives from the Wilson Liner Runo which had been mined in a known minefield 20 miles off the east coast when deviating from the given Admiralty Directions on the 05 Sept 1914. The Runo was enroute to Archangel Russia from Hull with a cargo of rubber and almost 300 passengers and crew of which 10 lost their lives, possibly in the explosion, as the vessel remained afloat for some time she was able to summon assistance of which the Hull trawler Cameo was one of the vessels which responded. On 01 Oct 1914 at the Hull Guildhall the Lord Mayor Presented a handsome gold watch and Albert Cross to Skipper Frederick William Wollaston, Master of the Hull Trawler CAMEO in recognition of his gallantry in saving a number of lives from the Wilson Liner RUNO, When it was mined in the north sea last month. The other trawlers to assist in the rescue were the EURIPEDES H959 Skp Ambrose Fisher , SILANION H577 , STRATON GY208, and the PRINCE VICTOR GY569 , all five skippers received the Board of Trade silver medal for Bravery at sea.

Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal Citation: Rannard, John D. Chief Engineer on Grimsby Trawler Straton. Case 41202

On the 5th September 1914, after the SS Runo had been sunk by a German Mine in the North Sea, a Russian lady and her child were seen to let go an upturned boat to which they had been clinging. Rannard jumped in and caught both and they were got on board the trawler.

The King has been pleased on the recommendation of the President of the Board of Trade, to award silver medal for Gallantry in saving life at sea to Astradur Olafsson, and monetary awards have been made to Olafsson and two other Icelanders, Olafur Gudbjartsson and Engilbert Johannsson for rescuing the members of the crew of the Hull Trawler Euripides, which stranded on the Iceland coast last March during a Hurricane.
