21st A/S Strike Force - Atlantic Convoys
PQ18 Convoy 1942 - Iceland to Archangel just short of Archangel the Daneman ran out of coal and placed her anchor down, this was a common occurence and escorts had to beg borrow and steal coal from merchant vessels. On the 21st of September 1942 after the Danemans Anchor chain parted in a storm she drifted helplessly and was forced onto rocks off Mudyugski Island. After abandoning the vessel and heading to the island the crew which were unarmed thought it safer to return to the vessel of which they did. The crew remained there throughout the gales, they were eventually rescued and refloated on the 19th October when the Daneman was taken to Murmansk and temporary repairs where made allowing her to sail the return journey in December. After arriving at Iceland on Jan 05 1943 she was dispatched to Belfast for complete repairs. After her repairs in Belfast the Daneman was assigned to North Atlantic Convoy duties where she would collide with a ice pack and founder less than a month after leaving Belfast.
