Iceland Command - Russian Convoys
H.M.T CAPE PALLISER 07 Nov 1942 in company with H.M.T St ELSTAN came across the liferafts of the sunken merchant vessel USS William Clark which had been enroute from Hvalfiord, Iceland to Murmansk, USSR When she had been torpedoed on the 04 Nov by U-354, 8 Officers 33 Merchantmen and 30 Armed Guards abandoned the ship. St Elstan rescued 26 survivors from one boat and Cape Palliser rescued 15 from another lifeboat, 2 further bodies were found. The Master of the vessel and 22 men had taken the No 1 lifeboat, they were never seen again.
