Extract From email from Kristen Veje`s Grandson - Erling Veie.     My grandfather Kristen Kristensen Veje (born 12.09.1870 in Aargab, Denmark) Was captain on the vessel around 1910 after he got his "Skippers certificate" on the 15th of june 1910.Before this time he had been working as an ordinary fisherman on board Hull trawlers for several years, as he immigrated from Denmark around 1899. However my grandfather did not get a long time as skipper. In the autum 1910 the Botanic left Hull on her last tour to The Wite Sea, and he promissed his wife to be back around X-mas.

On the hometrip the Botanic outside Lofoten on the Norwegian Westcoast a snowstorm came up and the lookout had only very bad sight. In these days they only had to trust the compass.
On the 27th December at 103. am the vessel struck a rock outside the small island VAROEY.
The following hours were terrible and the seas washed all over the vessel.
Rescue from shore was impossible owing to the weather.
6 out of 13 crewmembers drowned and are burried on the churchyard on VAROEY, and my grandfather was one of them. The graves are still maintained by the Norwegian Seamans mission and the people on VAROEY.
Among the rescued was my late uncle Kristen, who mustered as a deckboy.  ( My Late uncle was Kersten Miltersen Veie, born in Esbjerg, Denmark, on the 5h of November 1894. He drowned 1930, when his cutter collided with a German trawler.
