Fate : 27 - 28 Dec 1910 The Botanic in a snowstorm ran aground on rocks Vaero Island , Varoy North Norway. Incessant siren signals were heared from 11`o Clock in the morning but due to the fog the vessel could not be seen. At approximately 1`o Clock the fog lifted and the vessel was sighted. She had capsized and men were in the rigging, Lifeboats went to the vessel and picked up several men from the vessels small boat. The Skipper, Bosun, Stoker and sparehand were drowned. The Mate was found dead in the wheelhouse having probably received a blow to the head from the wheel.
