20 Dec 1971 - Arctic Ranger under skipper Charles Walker rescued the crew of a sinking Norwegian coaster the Viking Anton, Two of the Arctic Rangers crew members went into the water to save the crew of the Viking Anton Ray Smirk and John Franklin both received watches from the owners and a medal from the King of Norway for their bravery. Sadly two of the Norwegian crewmen died after been pulled from the water
