11th A/S Group Harwich : (T/Lt. R.H. Burrow, RNR) Arctic Pioneer was a asdic trawler and patrolled the waters during the Dunkirk evacuations in june 1940 On June 2nd nearing the last day of the Dunkirk withdrawal Arctic Pioneer heared the distress signal from the trawler Blackburn Rovers in thick fog but could not assist. Blackburn Rovers another asdic trawler was leading the Hull trawler Westella and the trawler Saon on patrol of the channel, Blackburn Rovers picked up a asdic sounding which it believed to be a U boat. On going to investigate Blackburn Rovers entered a British minefield and subsequently exploded, her depth charges also exploding. The trawler Westella had also followed Blackburn Rovers into the minefield and as she was picking up the survivors from Blackburn Rovers she also hit a mine blowing off her bow.The trawler Saon picked up survivors from both the Westella and the Blackburn Rovers.
1942 - 26th Anti submarine Gp Portsmouth  - 27 05 1942 HMT Arctic Pioneer ( Skipper George Bryan RNR ) was sunk by a bomb, from a German JU-87 Stuka dive bomber in the Cowes Roads outside of Portsmouth Harbour. 17 were killed and are buried in Haslar Naval cemetary in Gosport, in row 64. 16 survivors were picked up.
 


HMT ARCTIC PIONEER: 1940 Was adopted by the Bath Rotary Club, who sent comforts for the crew, such as woolies and cigarettes.

ARCTIC VIKING

On 27 05 1956 as the Arctic Viking H452 she was in collision with the St Celestin of Hull off Bear Island, The St Celestin subsequently sank.

18 10 1961 The Arctic Viking H452 was lost in heavy seas close to Flamborough whilst homeward bound.
