May 1940 whilst serving with the 120th Minesweeper Group out of Sheerness the Arctic hunter and the Melante were sweeping a channel near the Thames Estuary when they were called to go to Hook of Holland and sweep a channel from the Harbour, both vessels cleared a path and axiously watched as a british Destroyer left the harbour and proceeded to sea. The trawler crews unaware that aboard the Destroyer was Queen Wilhemina of Holland making her way to safety in Britain. The Melante and Arctic Hunter immediately proceeded to Dover and were soon sweeping channels around Dunkirk.
