1943 Sept - Received Orders to move to Tilbury to assist moving Thames Barges along the coast which would be a task that lasted 3 months
1943 23 Nov- Newhaven Lifeboat - Cecil and Lillian Philpott- Coxswain Leonard Peddleston  was requested to assist HMT Avanturine which had grounded off Cuckmere in a south westerly gale, After locating the Trawler the lifeboat anchored on her lee side and payed out a cable. Whilst doing so heavy seas brought the Avanturine down onto the lifeboat amidship causing severe damage to her. One crewman of the lifeboat was thrown overboard and drowned. With the assistance of the Shoreham lifeboat both the Cecil & Lillian Philpott and the Avanturine where brought back to Newhaven.
Fate : 1 Dec 1943 The 5th E Boat flottila consisting of nine boats attacked the Convoy that H.M.T Avanturine was part of, she was at the time under tow from HMT Peter Carey off Beachy Head, E-boat S142 claimed to have sunk H.M.T Avanturine.
